2011 is almost behind us and 2012 is right in front. What will it hold is the question everyone is asking.

2012 is going to be a wonderful year for weddings. Many couples got engaged over the holidays and are looking forward to starting their lives together as husband and wife.

Some of you may be wondering what trends are showing up:

1) White weddings - everything is white including flowers, attendants attire, mothers' dresses and even guests can be asked to wear white.
2) Colors - The rich jewel tones are being included in the flowers
3) Smaller guest lists- Couples are choosing to include only those family and friends who really mean a lot to them.
4) Formal weddings - Black tie is back in vogue.
5) Destination weddings - Couples are choosing beautiful, romantic spots like the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Cancun, Mexico, Italy for their weddings. This way they keep the guest list small, if any. (I'm doing a lot of "Planned Elopements" which includes setting up spa dates, a special romantic lunch/dinner for the couple, performing the ceremony etc. This also allows the couple to stay in a beautiful resort for their honeymoon.)
6) Hiring a wedding coordinator - Couples, and especially brides' mothers are finding they can actually enjoy the planning and the wedding by turning the details and stress over to a coordinator.
7) Pets - if it's possible to include a special pet do! Just be sure to have a handler take over the animal after their job is done.

Fall Happenings - New Trends

HAPPY FALL!

It's been a while since I've written, but a lot has happened.

I attended Wedding MBA in Las Vegas. This was a wonderful, exciting convention with many excellent speakers. Everything that we learned will help us give our clients the best service utilizing the latest in technology.

Kathy Ireland was a featured speaker. What an inspiration she is and such a "touchable" personality.

Trends for next year are white weddings. Everything from the attendants attire to the flowers are white. To go the other direction, use rich vibrant colors, such as the jewel tones. Weddings are getting back to more formal, black tie affairs, more intimate. Excitement, fun and maybe something a bit different, are the order of the day. Don't be afraid to enlist the services of a school choir, a magician, set up a Las Vegas room, and don't forget the photo booth! My advice is let your guests wanting more! You'll all have fun and wonderful memories of a very special day.

My "Planned Elopements" are becoming more popular. Couples who don't want the fuss of a full wedding, but still want a meaningful, romantic wedding, other than just signing on the dotted line at the county clerk's office, allow me to help them arrange a romantic stay at one of the mountain resorts or fabulous hotels in downtown Denver. Want a sunset ceremony? Take a look at what I did at Daniel's Park.

In September I did an elopement in Black Hawk, Colorado, at the Ameristar Hotel and Casino. We actually went up the hill about a quarter of mile and down into a grove of aspen trees. Makeup and hair was done by Leslie Snyder of www.lesliesarts.com and photography was done by Ken Miller www.kenmillerphotography.com.

Also in September I had the opportunity to do a wedding for a wonderful couple. The ceremony was in their back yard, and the reception was held at the DTC Hyatt. Decor was done, beautifully by Design Works. Jessie is a wonder to work with. The fabulous cake was done by Elegant Bakery, www.elegantbakery.com and was gluten free. (There wasn't a crumb left!) This bride also did something outstanding. She wrote and sang (via CD) the song for their first dance. It was written specifically for her groom! You can look for her CD at some point on the shelves! (Justine Wasserman-Thomas).

Currently, I'm working on an elopement to be in Breckenridge in December. As a reminder, I am available to travel, so can assist with any destination wedding anywhere in the world.

I had the opportunity to attend the Wedding MBA in Las Vegas. This was one of the most worth while conventions I've ever attended.

Planned Elopements in Colorado

There's a lot to be said for eloping, especially if it's "planned". One of the many services I offer is "Planned Elopements"(c). What is a "Planned Elopement"? This is where you call or email me with your date, what you want and I take it from there.

Perhaps you'd like to start your day with a massage in the spa, I can help book this. While you are doing this, your groom would like to have a fly fishing lesson or go golfing, I can arrange this as well.

If you'd like your make up and hair done, I will recommend a professional makeup/hair artist to come to you so you'll look your stunning best for your wedding.

February, Month of Love and Engagements-Building your wedding

Well, January is just about out the door and February is knocking to get in. February, the month of Love, happiness and engagements!

You wouldn't start planting a garden, building a building or making a birdhouse without plans. The same goes for wedding planning.

Many brides think that once they have the ceremony/reception venue, florist, caterer, officiant, musicians, etc. you are done. WRONG!!! You have just started on the road to a beautiful, wonderful, frustrating trip.

For every decision you make, there are 10 more. Pretty soon, you have all sorts of balloons floating around and you don't have the faintest idea of how to bring everything together. Enter your wedding coordinator!

This is what I do. I work with you to bring your ideas and drams to life (within your budget). Then I'm the one who gathers all the balloons together and on your wedding day you are presented with a beautiful, organized bouquet of balloons. The nice thing is you don't have to worry about where the balloons go or if they will float away. That's my job.

On the 20th of January, I had the wonderful opportunity to perform a Planned Elopement (tm) at Crystal Peaks in Breckenridge. The day was beautiful (pics to follow) with over 90" of snow base, just outside the glass windows. The couple was from Texas and thoroughly enjoyed the winter wonderland. The rooms at Crystal Peaks are beautiful, complete with fireplace and balcony. Where better to have a romantic get-away?

Congratulations to everyone who got engaged over the holidays! This is a wonderful, exciting, exhausting time. Enjoy it!!!

Once you've gotten used to the idea you'll be getting married, the questions start...how and where do I start? Well...Planning a wedding is a lot like assembling a bouquet.

You start with the main flowers (you and your groom) then add the accent flowers (your attendants and groomsmen). By the way, before you rush to the phone to call everyone, read the article on www.weddingsbytanya.com regarding selecting attendants. It will save you a lot of headaches in the long run!

Okay, back to building our bouquet. Once you have your attendants selected and invited, then things really get serious. The next step should be to select a wedding coordinator. This person will help you stay sane! A good coordinator will have many excellent vendors for you to select from. They should do their homework, about each vendor, so you don't have to. When selecting your coordinator, remember that one of the most important days of your life will be in their hands for the next 6-12 months. Do you feel comfortable with them? Do you trust them to listen and make your day yours? Have they been trained through some program? A good coordinator doesn't necessarily have to have a certificate, but this will tell you they took the time to learn about the Art of Wedding Coordination.

Next you need to add "greenery" to your bouquet. This will be your vendors. Whether you are planning to have 10 guests or 500, the same amount of planning applies. You will need a venue to do the ceremony. This can be a house of worship, outdoor site, hotel etc. Then you will need a place to do the reception. (Tip...by having your ceremony and reception at the same place, you can save money.) Think about where you want to get married. If you are both outdoors people, don't get married in a downtown hotel!

After selecting the venues, then comes the dress, officiant, caterer, florist, photographer, videographer, baker, rentals (if not included by the caterer), speciality lighting, musicians for both ceremony and reception and don't forget your hair/make-up artist. (Personally, I like to have the music changed throughout the wedding so by the time the dancing starts, you surprise your guests with the "big bang"!)

Do you need a videographer? This is usually one of the first places a couple cuts, which is unfortunate. Without sounding morbid, we never know how long our parents, grandparents or even the people standing with us will be around and it's nice to be able to do back and see and hear them. Besides, it's a great way to entertain your children when they can't remember how dad looked with hair! It's also a great resource for your kids when they get married if they want to work in some of the things that you did.

Select a caterer whose food you like! Do they listen to what you want? Are they willing to make great-grandma's special salad? Can they do ethnic cooking?

When selecting a photographer, take a look at weddings they have done. Can you feel the emotion of the moment in the picture or do the pictures looked posed? Does the photographer put you at ease? (Tip..I recommend that you have two photographers so that both the bride and groom's activities such as getting ready can be covered.)

Your florist should be able to take your ideas and build around them. Be sure to take a picture of your dress with you when meeting with the florist. You want your flowers to compliment your total look.

How important is a hair/make-up artist? Having them come to you will help keep you on time. A good, commercially trained make-up artist will be able to do a very natural look, but one that will photograph well in all lights. You may be going from a darker ceremony setting, to outside, to inside a tent and you want your pictures to be beautiful and natural for all the changes. Besides, your wedding day is not a day for a glamour look, but one that will enhance your own beauty. (Tip... be sure to do your prelims, allowing enough time to try several looks. If you are having a facial, do it several days before the wedding so your skin will be beautiful on your wedding day.)

Musicians...what type of music do you like? If you are getting married in a church, check first to see what type of music is allowed. Some will not allow the Wedding March or any secular music.

The Wedding Dress... (Tip... Again, before rushing out to buy your dress, if getting married in a Catholic Church or more fundamental church, Mormon church, or Jewish ceremony, ask if there are dress codes you must abide by. Some of these religions require the bride to be covered, which means if you want a strapless dress, you need to have a cape or jacket over it.) Your dress will set the tone of the wedding. You don't want to wear a very formal dress with a chapel train and veil if you are getting married outdoors. The time of day and place will also guide your quest for the right dress. When trying on dresses, take only your mother and maybe maid of honor. To many people just make it harder to make decisions. The same goes when selecting bridesmaids attire. Let this be a fun day. Remember what it was like to dress up as a little girl. Try on different styles. It's generally the one that brides think they would never consider that they fall in love with! You'll know it when you put it on.

The Baker (Tip... Think outside the box. I just did a wedding that the cake was a mountain with mountain bikes and a trail leading to the top. The trees went through the seasons in Colorado.)
A favorite of many brides is to have their dress embellishments on the cake. Each layer can be different. Let your cake be an extension of your personality. For examples go to www.elegantbakery.com.

Couples like to save money wherever possible and some good areas are in the decor. It's amazing how much speciality lighting can add to a room to set different moods. www.thewrightgroup.com or www.pinkmonkey.com are great resources. (Tip... When using lighting, I like to start out with soft lighting for the cocktail and dinner then when the dancing starts build on the light intensity as the evening progresses. I've used lighting to create a night-club effect in a ballroom. The lighting transforms the room totally. Lighting and draping can go a long ways in decor.)

There are many other aspects to wedding planning that I won't address here, but you know, every bouquet is finished with a ribbon. This will be your officiant. It may be the priest or pastor, rabbi from your home church or synagogue, if you attend. Otherwise, there are many good officiants who do only weddings that can make the ceremony memorable for you. After all, the ceremony is the most important part of the day as this is where you pledge your love and devotion to each other for your lives. Don't be afraid to visit with several officiants to find one that fits you.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING from Colorado!

It's hard to believe it's already Turkey time! What are you thankful for this year? I'm thankful for all the wonderful brides and grooms I've had the opportunity to work with and be a part of their lives for a short time.

September brought a beautiful wedding at the Dunafon Castle. If you want a beautiful setting, which makes you feel like you are at a medieval castle, this is the place for you. It has ponds, lawns, and even a dungeon, where the groom gets ready! They do have a list of caterers to select from. It's located in Morrison, up a beautiful canyon. I would say if you consider this venue, think about providing transportation for your guests who may not be familiar with Colorado mountain driving!

October I had two fabulous wedding. The first one was in Breckenridge, (hope to have pics soon to post). This couple came from the UK with about 50% of the guests from the UK. We did the ceremony and reception at Mountain Thunder Lodge in Breckenridge. What a lovely place! The rooms are all 1-3 bedroom condos and they have townhouses available. Amy did a fantastic job assisting us with all aspects of the venue and meal.

The night before the wedding, the couple hosted a bar-b-que, provided by Buffalo Gals Catering, from Colorado Springs. What a wonderful job they did, never mind the background snow! The food was delicious. Highly recommend them for any BBQ you might have in mind.

The cake was designed by Janusz, Elegant Bakery in Denver. It was a mountain complete with mountain bikes, trees, bike trails etc. Not only was it a work of art, it was delicious! Janusz uses white chocolate for the fondant so you can actually eat it!

The flowers, which were beautiful, were designed by Alicia Schwede of Bella Fiori in Denver. Alicia worked her magic and the colorful arrangements were spectacular!

Kent Meirers Photography did the photography. I've had a preview and can't wait to share these emotion filled photos. Kent really captured the feelings of the day.

Jeremy from A Music Plus was one of the best DJ's I've had the pleasure of working with. He's easy going and "plays to the guests". He had everyone on the dance floor. He has such a pleasant personality and was wonderful to work with.

Leslie Snyder or Lesliesarts.com did her magnificent work as make-up and hair/artist with the wedding party. If you want to look natural on your wedding day, Leslie is a must for your wedding day hair and make up.

The officiant was Judge Ron Carlson from Breckenridge. Judge Carlson did a wonderful job marrying this lovely couple. I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for an officiant.

We had Tammie Taylor to entertain the children with her balloon artistry and face painting. By the end of the wedding, every guest had face painting or a "tattoo"! She really brings a sparkle to any event. I highly recommend Tammie for any wedding with children to any adult party who wants to add something different!

The day turned out beautiful, but cool. Somehow we managed to have nice weather around the snow flurries! The Mountain Thunder Lodge is situated so you have the backdrop of the trees and the colors were spectacular.

My second wedding in October, started out with a bang! The rehearsal and wedding were at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in downtown Denver. During the rehearsal a man slipped into the back of the church and was going through purses. He grabbed the bride's wallet and left, with the bride's father and brother in close pursuit. They caught him and held him for Denver's finest to take. Oh, I didn't mention that the bride's dad is Chief of Police in Broomfield and her brother is also a policeman!

This wedding was a bit different in that we did two ceremonies, the first was the Catholic ceremony at Holy Ghost and the second, a Jewish wedding, was at the Ritz Carlton. This was followed by a wonderful reception.

The Ritz, as always did a wonderful job making everyone feel special.

The music for the ceremony was provided by Levitt Music, who does beautiful wedding stings. We had a violin and cello.

Our flowers were designed by Elizabeth Eberly of Delilah's Flowers of Denver. What a magnificant job they did. They truly turned the ballroom into something special.

Makeup was provided by Danica Jardien. Danica did a beautiful job on the wedding party.

John Hudetz Photography, who I work with a lot, has captured the day with all it's drama (he was at the rehearsal), and emotions of the day. John is wonderful to work with and really listens to what his clients want.

Sky Focus Pictures did the videography. What I've seen of their work is certainly leaving me waiting anxiously to see the wedding! Parish and Chris were super to work with and I'd highly recommend them.

For transportation - actually shuttles from the hotel to church, we had a 1936 touring car, provided by Ambassador's Rolls. They have a fleet of antique and unique cars. Can't wait to see the pictures of the wedding party looking over the opened top!

JSAV took care of the beautiful uplighting we did in the ballroom. They always do a great job creating a feel and anticipation!

It's been a great year! If you have questions about any of the vendors, or want to discuss your plans, I still have a few dates available for next year. I'm currently working on an Orthodox Jewish Wedding, which I'm really looking forward to being a part of!

I have the wonderful opportunity to be part of a group of wedding vendors, working in tandem with TC Decker of Muse Events, who will be providing a wedding for a beautiful couple. The bride is a breast cancer survivor. Their story is below. Our hope is to be able to provide a wedding, once a year for a bride who has had or has a family member who has fought breast cancer.

Wedding Planning - 101

I've just listened to a segment on Rachel Ray's TV program, about a mother and daughter and the problems they are having planning the daughter's wedding. What came to mind was what they needed was a wedding coordinator. Why? Because we are an impartial third party who can help with coming up with compromises.

Planning a wedding, under the best of circumstances, is extremely stressful, especially for the bride who has had the wedding of her dreams in her head since she was a child. Putting these dreams into reality can be a real challenge, especially if the bride is working with a specific budget.

What may be very important to her, may be frivolous to her mother. Enter the wedding coordinator! Speaking from a personal standpoint, since I can't speak of how other planners work, I like to establish, early on, what are the most important aspects of the wedding. Is it the food? The wine? The music? The flowers? Once this is established then we all have a start in the direction the wedding planning should go as well as the budget. Mothers and daughters have a very special relationship and they want to be speaking when the wedding is over! Having a wedding coordinator makes this possible, because we become the "go-to" person for both. They can each speak to me in confidence and know their comments are safe. Often, by just speaking about a problem, the mother or daughter is able to work out the answer to the situation. This is why a good planner needs to be able to listen and not be quick to give advice.

Brides need to keep in mind that a wedding is not a parents' responsibility, but is a gift from their folks. When a parent has a specific amount they can afford to spend, the bride needs to respect this and try to work with it. If her wishes and dreams are larger than the budget, either she and the groom can contribute or possibly the groom's family would be willing to help out, as long as it's not something extravagant and just for "show".

Mothers need to keep in mind their daughter's vision may not be theirs. Many mothers have the tendency to vicariously have the wedding they didn't have, through their daughters' weddings. This is where compromise comes in. If mom wants the bride to wear her veil, but it doesn't match the dress, consider how you can still incorporate it into your wedding wear. If it has lace, perhaps the lace can be attached to a handkerchief the bride is carrying, or maybe it can be wrapped around the flowers and attached with a special pin.

A wedding coordinator is no longer a luxury, we are a necessity. What should you look for in a coordinator?

1) Probably the most important thing is do you "click" with this person? You are entrusting one of the most important days in your life to this person and you want someone you feel comfortable talk to and can trust.

2) Do they have references? If so ask for a list then call a couple of brides to get their input.

3) Do they fit what you want? If you want a destination wedding, will they travel? Can they go to the destination site ahead of time to check things out and start the planning process?

4) Are you limited in time? Personally, I feel it takes as long as it takes to plan a wedding. This is why I don't limit my brides to four hours of planning and eight hours on the day of the wedding. It's not unusual for me to be on site, at the wedding, for 12 or more hours. I don't want brides not calling me with a questions because they are worried it's going to be deducted from their planning time. My clients have full access to me whenever they need me.

5) What services do they offer? Do you need someone to bounce ideas off of? Do you need assistance just finding vendors? You might just want someone who does hourly consulting. If you are going to school full time and working two jobs, you may need a full coordination package. If you have a good start and idea of who you want to work with then a "Partial" plan may work best for you.

6) Do they accept "Kick-backs"? This is a fair question to ask because if they do, chances are they have specific vendors they will direct you to and won't be as objective in finding vendors who may better fit your needs. (For the record, I do not accept "kick-backs". My clients pay me a fee for my services and I direct them to vendors who will do the best job for them.)

Submission Guidelines:

Your life must have been recently touched by breast cancer. The experience is not limited to the bride, but could be with the bride or groom's extended family.

Additional Information:

The wedding venue can accommodate approx. 125 guests, including the bride, the groom and the bridal party.
The wedding couple will be responsible for the catering staff fees, taxes and all alcohol.
The couple will be responsible for bridal accessories and shoes, and all clothing and accessories for the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
The couple will be responsible for their own travel arrangements to Denver not only for the wedding, but also the dress shopping, the dress fitting and the engagement session etc.
In lieu of favors the couple shall donate the money to a Colorado breast cancer facility or resource center of their choosing.
We are finalizing the details with a decor and event rental company. Once we have that information available, we will post here what additional costs will be associated with this.

Weddings in Colorado

July 4th brought one of the most rewarding weddings I've worked on. Each wedding I do, is special.

This wedding was one for the books! It took place on a ranch, that is a beautiful equine therapy ranch. We had the patios all tented as well as a tent on a grassy area, to accommodate the guests. Just before the ceremony started, it started to rain then hail. This passed, the sun came out for a time, long enough for the lovely ceremony.

The ceremony started with fireworks being set off, signaling the groom and groomsmen, who arrived on horseback. They road up to the guests and tipped their western hats, then after tying up the horses came to the staging area and were then lead by Michael Lancaster - a Bagpiper to the altar. The men were followed by the bride's attendants, dressed in Onyx, two beautiful flower-girls and another beautiful young girl leading Annie, the bride's dog, who fully outfitted with wings and floral neck piece was the ring-bearer.

With a "you bet ya"! response to the vows, the couple were married.

Looking over the patio, one can see the entire Denver Metro area. It's a view that's almost beyond belief. The view lasted through the ceremony and a few pictures afterwards, then the clouds returned and it started to rain.

We got through the dinner and the rain got harder, making it necessary to move the five wedding cakes into the house. Yes, five! These cakes were each a different flavor, and each told a story. The wedding cake was a two-tiered cake that was decorated to match the bride's dress. Another cake had mountains and horses on it, topped with their brand; the third had beautiful sugar flowers on it as the bride loves to garden; the fourth had a beautiful silver, sugar horseshoe on it, and the last one was decorated for the 4th of July with fire-crackers, and sparklers. These were all designed and created by Chef Janusz of Elegant Bakery in Denver, CO.

Because of the downpour, we had to move everyone into the house for the cake cutting. All in all, the food was delicious (provided by Chef Greg Boynton - Haute Touch Catering), tents by The Wright Group (they do tents all over the country for big events like the Olympics etc.) DJ was Tony Cummins (Sound Master Entertainment; Valet/shuttle service Lone Star Valet, Royal Restrooms provided a VIP trailer for the guests comfort; Leslie Snyder or Lesliesarts.com provided the lovely hair/make up for the bride/mothers/attendants; Alicia Schwede (Bella Fiori) did a spectacular job with all the flowers and tent decor. The photographer Peter Dendrinos (Dendrinos Fine Art Photography) and Miguel Hernandez - Videographer, did a fantastic job capturing the many special moments of the day. Prettywriting.com did the calligraphy for the invitations, so the addresses matched the font used on the invitations. All these wonderful vendors helped to make the day special and memorable.

Wedding Coordinators - Are they necessary?

It's a sunny day here in beautiful Englewood, Colorado! I've been reading quite a few articles on whether or not it's worth the money to hire a wedding coordinator, so thought I'd put in my 2 cents!

Let me explain the difference between a hotel, resort, venue wedding coordinator and me.
In a nut shell, they are there for the venue and I'm there for you, the bride, the groom and your families. Many venue planners will tell you they can handle everything, but what you need to ask them is will they help with a stuck zipper? Will they sew on a button? Will they help do last minute hemming? What if the bridesmaids dresses don't make it to the ceremony? What will they do? What if Aunt Jane wears a dress that a pin-on corsage won't work, can they make it into a wrist corsage? If divorced parents aren't getting along, how do they handle the seating situation? IF the strap on a shoe breaks, will they fix it?

These are just a few of the things you need to ask them. Chances are, they don't. I'm also reading that some DJ's and photographers consider themselves coordinators. Yes, they may be able to get you down the aisle, but will they also take care of the above mentioned problems? You have hired them, and probably paying pretty good money, to have them do their job, not to act as your coordinator. How can they be fixing a button, and taking pictures or setting up for the ceremony music at the same time?

I'm not trying to pick on anyone, but just want you, the bride, to think through what you need. I've been handling and solving problems for over 20 years, which includes, sewing hems, fixing zippers, finding black socks, coming up with bridesmaids dresses when they didn't show, and even handling a ceremony when the officiant didn't show. These are just a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a wedding coordinator. I take care of you so your other vendors can take care of their business.

Whether you hire a wedding coordinator to do full planning, partial planning or for day of, there's someone out there who can meet your needs. Ask yourself the question, can I really afford NOT to hire a good wedding coordinator?

Spring time in the Rockies

Can you believe it's April already? There's nothing like Spring time in the Rockies! Flowers are starting to poke their heads through what's left of the snow, and the grass is turning green.

The end of March, I planned a party for myself, which my children hosted. Thought I'd share a couple of pictures because they show what these fabulous vendors can do, not only for private parties, but for weddings.

Encore Style (Kirsten Rodriguez) did the flowers and centerpieces

Haute Touch (Chef Greg Boynton) did the catering - along with his very capable staff

Elegant Bakery (Chef Janusz) designed and made the fantastic cake

The Wright Group (Brittany) did all the linens and rentals

The Perfect Blend (Ruth Most, Sally Robertson, and Mary Witt) a fantastic trio, gave a fabulous 30 minute concert that everyone enjoyed.

(Unfortunately, the picture of the room is fuzzy, but you can get the idea.)

I chose to use white with turquoise colors, which worked beautifully with the Victorian floral arrangements.

A Love Story- one of hope, inspiration and motivation

I have the distinct honor, of working on the wedding for two incredible people. Their wedding will take place on a beautiful ranch, overlooking the city of Denver.

Involved in a horrendous motorcycle accident in 2002, Kate Dendrinos-Ricket was left close to death. Doctors were convince that if she did live, she wouldn't ever talk or walk again. In just the next three months, Kate proved all the doctors wrong.

From the beginning Shawn stayed at Kate's side through her stunning recovery to the stupendous decline which lasted for the next six years. With Shawn's never ending faith, hope, love and devotion, he helped Kate return once again from the brink of death to a full recovery.

Today this beautiful couple give back. They facilitate an equine therapy program for those with disabilities at the Big View Ranch in Golden, Colorado.

If you have a family member or friend or yourself need inspiration, motivation and hope, then you need to read their book "I Am Not Supposed To Be Here". This is a book that once you start reading, you won't want to put it down. It's great for anyone who have experienced head injuries sustained in accidents or in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm in the spotlight!

It's been a great week as the phones are ringing off the hook! It's nice to be recognized and wanted! I've booked with three great couples this week. I still have a few dates available as I have to limit the number of weddings I do since I do each and every wedding/event myself.

I'm also booking elopements, which I enjoy doing as well.

It's hard to realize that February is almost over! A donation will be made to the Heart Association, this month, in the names of the new clients I've signed.

The charity to receive donations for March will be The Boys and Girls Club.

Winter Park, Colorado wedding

Hi everyone! It's a snowy day in Colorado. I did a wedding in Winter Park, Colorado, at the Devil's Thumb Ranch. With the snow on the mountains, and coming down, it was a wonderland, if you didn't have to drive in it!

I'd like to tell you about this wedding. It was the perfect wedding! The bride arrived in a horse-drawn sleigh (with wheels) to the church. The snow was softly falling, which made for a beautiful picture. (The sleigh was provided by Aspen Carriage and Sleigh (Sandra Dieterich). There were two of the most beautiful Percherons I've seen pulling the sleigh.

The photography was done by two very talented photographers from Salida, CO, Wild Iris Studio (Kristy Watts). I understand they do portraits as well.

The ceremony was at Our Lady of the Snow, Catholic church, in Granby, CO. The priest, Father Bogdan Siewiera, and the pianist DiAnn Bourget both came from their home church in Salida.
The bride's beautiful bouquet, of deep red roses and the reception decor was provided by Pick Me Floral in Winter Park. Rami Carter did a fabulous job. 970-531-2479.

After the ceremony, the reception was at Devil's Thumb Ranch in The Barn, which is a historical barn, worked into the Ranch and a beautiful place for a reception. The cake, beautifully done, by Paula Thomas of Tea Cup Bakery. The bride, her family and attendants stayed at the beautiful Snowy Mountain Ranch (also a YMCA).

What made this a perfect wedding? Let me back up to the day before the wedding. I met with the bride and groom to finalize any last minute changes, which is the norm. It was then I found out that the seamstress, hired in July of last year to custom make the wedding and bridesmaids dresses, hadn't accomplished the project! The bride had the foresight to purchase a backup dress, but had expected the bridesmaids dresses to arrive, along with the seamstress, the day before the wedding. They didn't get done! There were NO bridesmaids dresses.

We immediately went into action to find a solution. Being aware of what most of the bridal shops in the area (meaning Denver 100 miles away) carried in sizes in their samples, I immediately called Lisa at Celestial Bride (8262 S. University Blvd, Centennial, CO 80122 720-529-2000. Lisa agreed to reopen her bridal salon to my clients late that night. She did go to the shop, but received a call from the bridesmaids telling her the weather was just to bad they weren't going to make it b y 10:30 pm! Lisa did agree and did open the salon Saturday morning (the day of the wedding) and met the bridesmaids there around 7:30 am. (Talk about going over and above!!!!) When the bridesmaids arrived back at the ranch, each had a dress to wear.

While the overall picture wasn't her vision, and she could have been upset all day about it, she wasn't. (One of the things I cover with clients is that you are dealing with humans and anything can happen!) She was truly a princess in all meanings of the word. She was gracious, smiling, and above all, enjoyed her day.

We stayed at the Olympia Lodge in Winter Park. This lodge is owned by Albert and Carol Gasienica, who I might mention were great hosts! The rooms were very large, extremely clean and very comfortable. They include a continental breakfast along with the room. http://www.olympialodge.com/. 970-726-8843. This Olympia is within walking distance of restaurants, and just a short drive from the slopes. I highly recommend this lodge if you are staying in the area.

The point to my writing this is that while things can go wrong, the bottom line is "YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED"! As long and the officiant, bride and groom (and hopefully me :-) are there, nothing else matters...it's all icing on the cake.

In closing, (1) if you are working with a coordinator, let them know at the first sign that something may not be going right. We are there to help solve problems. Trust us to do so.
(2) If something goes wrong, let it go. You probably can't do much about it. It will certainly make your day memorable! (3) Enjoy your day, even if it's not quite the dream you had, few weddings are!

January will soon be gone and so will another month of planning!

One of the things I like to do, when assisting a couple with their planning, is to make the wedding day exciting for them and their guests.

I like to start with the ceremony music. Perhaps it's the pipe organ in the century old church, or a string quartet, an acoustic guitar paired with a flute or violin to set the mood for the ceremony.

Next, for the cocktail hour (you need "white noise") so you can carry over the some of the strings, guitar or have a DJ play background music.

For dinner, select music that is going to again be background music. If you have a band, such as the Nacho Men, they can entertain, while keeping the level at one where your guests can visit and not have to yell across the table. If using a DJ, ask them to keep the level low. Check out www.amusicplus.com for all your music needs.

For the dance, the music changes again and this time it's one to get your guests up, out of their seats to start the party! For more excitement, consider a combo of band and DJ. This way you don't have down time and you keep your guests on the dance floor for the entire evening.

Keep the temp changing and the anticipation building for your guests. You want them leaving wanting more and not wondering when it's going to get over!

When selecting your your music, be sure to let the DJ/band know what songs you want played AND what you don't want played.

What do you get when you have a groom and five groomsmen who are all Air Force pilots? A wonderful, fun wedding and reception.

This wedding took place in the Pinnacle Club, 38 floors above Denver. This property is the only one of it's kind in the Denver area. You have almost a 360 degree view of Denver and the Rocky Mountains. You can see from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak.

We started this wedding at sunset so the guests enjoyed the sunset and the lights of Denver.

'Tis the Season - Start planning!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone! This has been a very interesting year for most of us!

Having had the opportunity to visit both the Philippine Islands and the Mexican Riviera in one year was a highlight for me. Due to these trips, I'm now ready to assist all you brides, who are looking at destination weddings, plan your weddings.

This doesn't mean that you necessarily have to do your destination weddings at these locations, but anywhere in the world. I go about the planning process the same way I would if you were getting married locally. By the way, Colorado is a beautiful place for destination weddings as well!

Spectacular Colorado Wedding Mountain Venue

I had the opportunity to experience what brides, who do Colorado Weddings in Beaver Creek can experience.

We stayed one night at the Park Hyatt. During this stay, we enjoyed a wonderful massage in the Allegria Spa, had dinner and breakfast in 8100 - The brand new Mountain Side Bar and Grill, slept in the most comfortable room, and had a spectacular view of the center of the Village of Beaver Creek and the mountains.

The Park Hyatt is a ski-in, ski-out property, however, they are year around. They have done outstanding renovations, building out the patio, changing the Antler Bar (which used to be in the lobby area) to the 8100 Mountainside Bar and Grill. The plus side of this, is it stays open much longer!

The patio, located at the foot of the mountain, is a perfect place for your wedding ceremony and cocktails before going inside for your mouth-watering reception dinner.

Chef Reese Hay, Chef de Cuisine of 8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill, is one of the most talented chefs I've had the opportunity to meet and taste what he can do! Because of his work, the Park Hyatt was listed in the Esquire Magazine as one of the MUST DINE IN restaurants in the country! Another big plus for this Chef is that he utilizes as much local fresh produce and ingredients, including meats etc. as possible. Video or no video?

The question comes up, especially in these economic times, do you want a video or even have the budget for one?

Well, I'll tell you I've heard brides say they wished they had done one, but never have I heard a bride say she was sorry.

Some things to keep in mind when deciding:
1) If you have aging grandparents or parents, they won't always be around and it will be nice to go back and see and hear them talk and laugh.
2) While you won't watch it that often, when there's tough times, it's nice to listen to those all important vows you made to each other.
3) Your children will enjoy seeing their dad with hair.
4) Your attendants may not always be around but this keeps every one close to you.
5) Your children may want to incorporate some of your ceremony/reception into theirs when they get married.

If you don't have the budget to video the whole wedding, consider at least having the ceremony taped. Video goes hand in had with photography. There's lots to be said for being able to hear the music, vows and comments.

There's lots of good videographers out there in all price ranges. If you find someone you'd really like to work with, give them your budget and ask if they can work with it. It's been my experience that the videographer will probably want to work with you as much as you'd like them to video your special day. Just ask!

New Venue in Colorado

I had the opportunity, yesterday, to view and enjoy a fantastic lunch at a brand new venue being built in the Parker, Colorado area.

Colorado Golf Club will definately be for the descerning bride. It has a wonderful Colorado feel, but is very elegant at the same time. The backdrop for ceremonies is a non-obstructed view of the mountains. On a clear day, you'll be able to see Pikes Peak to Longs Peak.

This Club is a private club, but will have some dates available for weddings. Included in the wedding package is a two night stay (night before the wedding, and wedding night) of a charming four-bedroom cottage. There's also possibility of golf and access to other amenities that members have.

The food, under the direction of Chef Bob Burden is something you'll be happy to write home about!

While the facility won't be available until May 2010, they are doing showings and taking reservations. If you are dreaming of an elegant, Colorado wedding, then this is a must see!

As we all know, especially in the times we live in, it's very important to give back and share with those less fortunate than ourselves.

For this reason, I've decided to make a donation to the Breast Cancer National Research of $100, for each Full or Partial Wedding Package contracted; $50 for each Day Of Service; and $25 from each elopement package.

Destination Weddings

I just returned home from a destination wedding to the Ashburn, VA area. The wedding was held at Silverbrook Farm, which is something right out of the magazines you look at and think you'll never see! The farmhouse was built in the late 1700's and the owner, Dottie Shetterly not only lives there, but has two charming bedrooms that she rents out on occasion as a B&B. The rolling hills, cattle - along with the white chaperon goat, in the pasture made for the most scenic of backdrops. As the sun set to the west, there was a full moon that made it's way up into a clear sky from the East. It couldn't have been more perfect if it has been scripted!

We had a tent set up for the reception and a smaller one for the buffet. The flowers were magnificent, done in fall colors. The food was wonderful and the service outstanding. Which bring up another issues. How do you work with a long distance coordinator? I'm located in Colorado doing a wedding in Virginia. How do I handle this? First, I find out if my client has vendors selected or if they need help doing this then I get to work. I start by researching the vendors to be sure they are professionals and up to the task. I ask for references and check them out! (This is a must for all long distance planning.) The bride should also do this! I talk to other vendors in the area to get referrals as well. If possible, I like to make at least one trip to the location to meet with the vendors, visit the venue so I'm well appraised on what to expect.

It takes a larger time investment, but well worth it. I try to arrive three days early so I can go over everything with the client as well as the vendors and leave nothing to chance. I've even learned how to pack the essentials from my emergency kit so the bride doesn't have to worry about these things.

Can you believe it, September is almost over and thoughts turn to Halloween and soon Christmas?

Time passes so quickly. I can hardly believe that I leave on Tuesday for Virginia to do a wedding this coming week-end! I'm so excited about the wedding, of course, but also to experience the colors of the East.

Whether you are having 18 or 500 guests, having a coordinator will assure you of enjoying your day. There's a much planning that goes into a small wedding as there is a large one. Paying for a wedding coordinator for your daughter or future daughter-in-law is one of the nicest gifts (engagement or shower) you can give. It's also very thoughtful as well as it will allow you, the moms, to enjoy the day as well!

I had the opportunity to visit a new all-purpose venue yesterday. It's Highline Circle of Life Center, located just off 120th and I-25 north of Denver. Don't shy away from it as it is a funeral home as well, but is built in a way that you don't get that feel when you are in it. They have a chapel for ceremonies which lends itself to any type of decor you'd care to put in it. Outside, currently, is one of the most beautiful tents I've seen! They are, however, going to build a permanent structure for receptions. They can comfortably handle up to 150, however, I'd be more comfortable with 100-125. The owners are very friendly and anxious to please. The facility has a fabulous organ, which Andrea (one of the owners) can play, or they have a state of the art AV system and can play videos as well as CDs. Your choice. You can use their caterer or bring in your own. They have a bride's dressing room as well. Plenty of parking and the price includes the chapel and reception. Wedding Dresses available

It makes me very sad to learn of people, like the bridal salon owner in Northern Colorado, who takes advantage of brides. Unfortunately, there are those people, but the major number of wedding vendors are honest and professionals.

My heart hurts for the brides who are left without their dresses or money to purchase a new one. I wish I could replace each of the dresses.

I do have my daughter's wedding dress, that I'd be happy to give to one of the brides. It does need alterations as it has puffy sleeves, and Victorian neckline. However, in the right hands, it could be altered to be a beautiful new dress. It has a chapel train and veil. It's probably about a size 10 (wedding dress measurements). My daughter is a size 4.

I also have a beautiful, strapless, white satin dress that would be a beautiful wedding dress. Either plain or it could be embellished. It's probably a size 6-8. Great for a destination wedding.

Have you ever wondered how all those celebrity weddings look so put together? Well, I'm going to let you in on the secret! They use an Image Expert, and guess what?!? I've found one locally, or she found me...anyway, I'm so excited to share this.

Keri Blair at www.keriblair.com is an Image Expert. What does this have to do with weddings? Keri will do an initial appointment with you to learn all about your tastes, what your idea for your wedding dress is then go to work and find it. She saves you, the bride, many hours of searching by doing it for you then going with you to try on dresses she's pre-selected. Not only does she do the bride's dress, but will also recommend styles etc. for the entire wedding party, yes, men included, flower girls, MOB and MOG too. She will help select the perfect dress and accessories, right down to the shoes. Her goal is to make sure the entire wedding party looks like they belong together.

By utilizing her services, when your wedding party processes down the aisle, you will look totally put together.

Keri works hand in hand with me as a coordinator, as she helps you with attire, while I still am there to help you with everything else. I'm still happy to go with you when you try dresses.

As for her charges, she will work with each bride individually either on a consulting basis or put together a package for you. This way, she can be as objective, as I am, when it comes to the dress shopping. She utilizes all the shops and works hard to find your dream dress.

What bride and groom doesn't want to have the perfect venue for their wedding day? How many venues have you looked at only to learn that it will cost most of your budget! I've just learned that Wild Basin Lodge in Estes Park is more than willing to barter with couples! What a concept. Just think, you can have your wedding at one of the top, romantic, secluded, romantic spots for bartering!

2010 Weddings - Start Your Planning!!!

It's hard to believe that it's July already! School will be starting in about 6 weeks in some areas.

Brides are planning their 2010 weddings. It's not to soon to start booking your vendors to be sure you have the team together you want. To have a successful event you need to have a great team. How do you assemble this team?

1) Start with a good wedding coordinator (We have the information that will help make your selection process much easier.)
2) Define what is most important to you. This is where you want to channel more of your budget.
3) Start meeting with the vendors. Try to limit yourself to three in each category as it will make your interview process much more manageable.
4) Once you've made your decision, get your contract signed, then you can start working on the details.
5) Allow your coordinator to do the job you've hired them to do. This makes your planning go much smoother, and you will enjoy it more. This doesn't mean they should take over! It's still your wedding.
6) Sit back on your wedding day and just enjoy the moment!

If you are dreaming of a mountain resort wedding, this is the time to book. Don't rule out some of the beautiful ranches. You can do anything from a casual to elaborate wedding at these. Some offer cabins for extended stays, some are very exclusive. If coming to Colorado for a destination wedding, these can offer a truly Colorado experience from a mountain backdrop to Colorado wines.

This past Friday, I spent the night at the Timberline Condominiums in Snowmass, Colorado. Snowmass is located about 12 miles north of Aspen. It is off the beaten path and on top of a hill, right next to the ski lift.

When you go outside all you hear is nature. It was so quiet and peaceful. The Timberline Condos are made up of condos so each is different. Each unit is well decorated and very comfortable. Unusual wedding site

Yesterday I had the opportunity to take a ride on the Georgetown Loop. If you haven't experienced this train ride, it's a must do on your list! The trip we took was 2.5 hours as we also took the mine tour, which is well worth the price.

There are several beautiful locations for weddings and receptions. They are now offering a dining experience in the evenings.

Imagine being on an old Victorian era train, riding through the pines with the blue sky above and the creek below. Stopping on a 75' bridge to have your ceremony then having champagne served as you chug your way to your reception. You could even go the next step and dress the part, have your guests in Victorian costume, decorate the train, etc.

This is the perfect venue for an elopement as well as they are willing to stop the train for the ceremony. There are so many possibilities where a ceremony could take place.

Asian/Hindi wedding and traditions

I'm working on a Hindi wedding. This has been a very interesting experince for me as there is so much tradition. It's going to be beautiful and very colorful. I love working with different cultures and learning about their various ways and traditions and would welcome the opportunity to work with more Asian cultures.

To me, when planning a wedding, it's important to include traditions. Ask your parents and grandparents what they did and see if there's a way you can incorporate something from their weddings into yours. As a surprise consider having the song that was your parents first dance played.

Another thought is to copy the bouquet your mother carried, perhaps incorporating some of the same flowers in your own bouquet.

Ask if your mother or grandmother has a special set of candle holders then use them for your unity candle ceremony. It doesn't matter if they are colored, in the form of elephants etc. if they have special meaning for you, use them.

As you think through your wedding plans, think of things that your children can carry forward as well. Have your cake knife engraved. It will make it an heirloom to pass along.

Can you believe it' May already? Wedding season is getting ready to burst forth just like the flowers!

The economy is easing a bit, but still has couples worrying about their weddings and how to have the one they want for the budget they have available.

One of the best ways to keep in check is to hire a good wedding coordinator. I can't emphasize how important this is as we know the vendors who will do the best job for them within their budget. One of the big ways we save you money is in time. Let us make the inital calls to pre-qualfy vendors for you.

A possible thought is to do a Planned Elopement. There is no reason that an elopement needs to be just to Vegas anymore. I can help you plan anywhere you'd like to go, including the Philippine Islands and be there if you'd like. A Planned Elopement can be a elaborate as you'd like. It can include flowers, photography, videography, special dinner arrangements, wedding cake and just about anything else you'd like included. I take care of all the arrangements and can preform the ceremony.

Destination weddings are a great way to save money as it limits the number of guests who will attend.

Last Wednesday, at the Arrabelle Resort in Vail, I performed the wedding ceremony for this lovely couple. They hadn't told anyone what they had planned when coming to Colorado. We worked with the 1321 Studios - Jeff Siebert, to put together a video that they could have ready the next day to make their big announcement.

I had the opportunity to attend the "roll out" of a brand new wedding dress line. The designer is Alisa Benay. She is a local, Colorado designer, who has designed and is now offering a beautiful and different Bridal Couture Line. Not only does she offer a regular line, but each year she will have a limited edition dress, that part of the proceeds will be donated to benefit the Susan G. Komen Society. Destination Philippine Islands

Did you know there are 7,107 islands that make up the Philippine Islands?

I didn't until I had the opportunity to visit many of the beautiful venues that would love to host destination weddings. Whether you'd like to get married in a resort in the middle of Manila or on the China Sea white sand shore, there's a venue for you.

The hotels and resorts are 4 and 5 star rated, the food delicious and the service over and above expectations. Where else can you find a handful of Calla lilies for $1??? You can easily do a wedding for 150 guests there in one of the top hotels for less than $10,000, so you can imagine the cost for the two of you or a small group.

All-be-it it's a long flight, but you sleep most of the way and the airlines feeds you really well! Also, you don't have to pay for your beverages.

There is tight security at every turn, but nothing to be afraid of if you don't get off the beaten path. While I was there, we toured all over Manila and one of the most memorable places, for me, was the American War Memorial. It's the largest military cemetery outside the US. There are still around 35,000 soldiers unaccounted for and each name is engraved in a large marble wall.

The Philippine people are extremely polite and friendly and they know how to throw a party!
If you are looking for an exotic place for your wedding, where none of your friends have gotten married, check out the Philippine Islands. It's even possible to have a designer make your dress in the range of $900 - 1500. These dresses are beautiful and can have a lot of hand beading done. They just need your measurements and ideas of what you'd like to have.

Destination Weddings

I just had to share with you all about an opportunity that has presented itself.

In about five weeks, I'll be one of 20 wedding coordinators, who have been invited to visit the Philippines. This is through an organization that is International so I feel very privelaged to have been chosen to go.

During this time, I will learn about the destination spots there as well as garner information on Asian weddings. I'm currently working on a traditional Indian-Hindu wedding to be held in July.

I've had experience in the past working with a couple where we did a nine course Chinese dinner and tea ceremony for the rehearsal then had the traditional Western wedding the next day.

Asian weddings are beautiful as well as challenging since there are so many facets to them. The colors are fabulous and a photographer's dream!

Wedding Coordinators - What to look for

It's come to my attention, that many brides have no idea what they should ask or look for when interviewing potential wedding coordinators.

I'd like to give you some ideas. First, one doesn't have to be "certified" to be a wedding coordinator. While there are many good courses, some choose not to take them, and can still be good coordinators. However, if someone has taken the time and spent the money, to become a wedding/event coordinator, you will know they are serious about their chosen career.

How long have they been coordinating weddings? How many do they do a week? Will the person you talk with be the one doing your wedding? How do they bill out? Do they accept "kick-backs"?

The basic ways a coordinator will bill you, will be:

a. A percentage of the budget - Ask if this is the proposed budget or what it turns out to be. What all is included in the percentage?

b. By the hour.

c. By a flat fee. This is the way I choose to bill because I feel it's important that no client feels like they are being charged every time they call or want to meet with me. Planning a wedding takes as long as it takes. (Personally, I'm on site for the rehearsal and the day of the wedding start to finish. This means I check in with the bride, wherever she's getting ready then proceed to do what I need to do.)

Does the planner have an adequate emergency kit? Will they bring it?

Do they have an assistant? While I don't always use one, if the ceremony and reception are in different locations or if there are over 50 guests, then I will have someone there to help cover as needed.

Most important, is how do you feel about this person? Are they sending out warm, fuzzy vibes? Do they seem to be someone who will listen to what you want or do they appear to be the type to just take over? Remember this is YOUR wedding and your budget. You are in control!

It's also nice, when you can, to take your fiance with you. A good wedding coordinator should make themselves available to the groom as well since he may have questions that he needs answers to as well.

First let me, along with my mascots, Sandy and Remus, wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. May you enjoy a beautiful, peaceful time with your families and loved ones.
For those of you who will be getting engaged, remember to enjoy your engagement for a bit before starting on the road to planning your wedding. When you are ready to start planning your wedding, start with a good coordinator. They will save you a lot of time (and we all know that time is money)!

The economy hasn't been to kind to anyone this year and to help accommodate those planning weddings, I'm offering payment plans for any of my packages. There is no interest charged. Luxury Weddings -Destination Colorado

I just returned from an overnight visit to the Vail/Beaver Creek, Leadville, CO areas.
If you are considering Colorado either as a home or destination wedding I'd like to share three venues that I visited.

Vail is the home of a brand new hotel, the Arrabelle at Vail Square. If you've ever traveled to the south of Germany, in the Bravarian area, you'll swear you are there again. This hotel is a village within the village of Vail.

If you want luxury, there's no place like the Arrabeelle. You are met at your car by the Bell Captain, taken to the front desk, where you are met by your own personal butler (trained in the English manner), escorted to your room, where your butler will do everything from putting your clothes away, ironing out the wrinkles to bring you coffee in bed in the morning.

I could go on and on about this fantastic venue, but want to leave some surprises for those of you who decide to visit there. I will say they have a beautiful ballroom that can easily hold 180 guests for a sit down dinner as well as an outdoor area for weddings.

Nestled in Avon, just before you start up the mountain to Beaver Creek is the brand new Westin Riverfront. If you are looking for a Colorado feel, this is a venue certainly to be considered. They are one of the new "green" hotels, which includes bamboo robes! They have a wonderful, warm feel and would certainly welcome the larger weddings in the area. Also being close by the mountains of Beaver Creek, a beautiful spot for elopements.

If you are a romantic at heart and love the idea of a Victorian Wedding, complete with costumes, then consider the Delaware Hotel, founded in 1886. Leadville, for those history buffs, is the initial home of "Molly Brown". While the elevation of over 10,000 feet may be a consideration, there are so many things to do here from hiking, to biking, to fishing and you are only about 45 minute drive from Vail. This is truly a wonderful little Victorian town that has maintained the feel of the west. This hotel can do a sitdown dinner for 45 guests, has truly maintained it's feel of days past. Great for a small wedding or elopement. Each hotel room is different and very comfortable.

Another "hidden Jewel" in Vail is the Antler's. This facility is all condos, for comfort, is affordable, and has everything from one bedroom to four bedroom condos. Located on the creek and right across from the Vail mountain, this is the place for anyone who wants to experience Vail, but may be on more of a budget. Each room is equiped with a kitchen so you can fix your own meals, but are close enough to walk into Vail should you decide to enjoy the fine dining you can find in the village.

The Antler's also has room for ceremonies and weddings and ample opportunities for pictures in their beautiful courtyard with a wonderful waterfall flowing around two elk. Do check out this venue for your wedding or elopement.

Professional Vendors

Happy November! Just think, in three weeks we'll be having turkey and thinking about wrapping Christmas gifts!

Many couples will be getting engaged during these coming holidays. When you start looking for vendors, start with a reliable, trained and professional wedding coordinator. These are people who have put in the time to learn their trade. Yes, they will cost more, but it will be money well spent. Don't hesitate to ask for references of past brides, then call and talk to them.

Some questions to ask are, will this person listen to me and my dreams?
How available will they be to me during the planning process?
Do they work with reliable vendors?
Is this a person I feel comfortable with? This is important because you'll be entrusting them with one of the most important days of your life.
How long will this person be at the reception? You want to be sure that they won't leave during the reception as things may need to be handled and they won't be there to do so.
Are they willing to assist the groom if needed? (My feeling is that the groom is as much a part of the wedding as the bride! I'm there for both of you to assist in anyway possible.)
How do I feel about this person? Is this coordinator someone who I can trust and work with? After all, it's your wedding and you are in charge!

One of the main areas where a coordinator can save you a bunch of time (and time is money), is in recommending photographers/videographers. There's many people who fancy themselves wedding photographers, but do you want to entrust your once in a lifetime pictures to someone who has picked up a camera and fancies themselves to be a photographer?

This isn't saying that there aren't some good photographers out there who are switching over to weddings or starting up. What I'm saying is be cautious as this is one area where you really get what you pay for. Be careful.

Have an idea of what your budget is when visiting with any vendor. This way they can determine what will fit into it. Again, a coordinator can assist here as they will know, basically, what a photographer charges and will they fit your budget.

Some photographers will include a CD for you of all the pictures, and some won't, at least right away. The reason they don't is that it's the photographer's name and reputation that will be associated with any pictures printed. If they are printed just anywhere and don't come out, then the photographer will be blamed. If you are considering having your own pictures printed, ask the photographer to recommend a good lab so you'll get the quality you should have for these precious pictures.

In these tight economic times, you want to get the most for your money without compromising your dream. Let the professionals help. That's what we do best!

Georgia Wedding

Can you believe it's October already!

I just returned from doing a wedding in Atlanta, Georgia.

What sets the south apart are the beautiful old buildings. The wedding ceremony took place in Trinity Methodist Church and the reception in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (used to be known as The Abby), in downtown Atlanta. These churches were over 200 years old! They have dark woods, beautiful stained glass, and long, long aisles. Trinity has a wonderful pipe organ.

St. Paul's has their own caterering company, located within the church itself. Bridge Catering. The food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. We brough in our own alcohol and soft drinks as well as the cake. (Ask for Andrew. He's a gem to work with!)

The cake was from Highland Bakery and was not only beautiful, but it tasted wonderful.

The photographer Linn Sinn-Clark (LSC Photography) was super, easy to work with, took many, many shots and was almost invisable, as was the videographer Complete Video and Music.

The flowers were so fresh and lovely. These were done by Woody and Cliff. Sorry, but I don't have the name of the florist.

It was a real treat to have the rehearsal dinner at Alpha Soda Resturant, an authentic Greek Resturant, complete with live musicians. The food was fantastic. It was a great evening.

September in Colorado Wedding

This past week-end, I did a wedding in Keystone, Colorado. The ceremony was in the Quaking Aspen Ampitheater and the reception in the Keystone Pavilion. The aspen are just starting to change so the colors are spectacular in the area.

It did rain a bit, but the ceremony came off between showers and we provided enough umbrellas that guests were kept dry when needing to use the restrooms, that are located outside the tent!

To say The Wright Group (www.wrightgroup.com) and Encore Style (encorestyleinc@comcast.net) went the "extra mile" is an understatement. The Keystone Neighborhood Group, who operates the tent, said it was the most beautiful event they'd ever hosted in the tent! The draping and special lighting, along with the magnificant orchid arrangements took your breath away and created the perfect ambiance for the wedding.

The food, provided by Greg Boyington of Haute Touch (www.hautetouch.com) was to die for and the authentic Purto Rico wedding cake was provided by Teacup Shop (www.teacup-shop.com)
was a highlight!

Photography, provided by Von Dolce of Dolce Photography (www.vondolce.com) is nothing short of fantastic and the videographer Mares Video Productions (www.maresvideoproductions.com) did a fabulous job of the montage, shown throughout dinner as well as being one of the top videographers in the State. (Can't wait to see the final products from both of these vendors!)

Music was wonderful and really set the mood. For the ceremony, Rob Wivchar, played guitar and sang (robwivchar@hotmail.com) and Eclectic Edge Events, LLC (www.EclecticEdgeEvents.com) provided all the dance music and the DJ (Jim) kept the party going and had everyone on the dance floor!

The bride's natural beauty, was enhanced by Liz from Beauty on Location (www.Beautyonlocationbyliz.com) and the bride's hair made it through even the downpours, looking fresh and lovely.

Grooms' Corner

Today's grooms are more savey than in the past. They want to (or should) be involved in the wedding planning. Gone are the days when a groom just showed up, said "I do" and was done.

This is a groom's day as well as the bride's. Eventhough the focus is on the bride, there is as much emotion on the groom's part. This is your wedding day as well and you should feel like you can contribute if there's something you feel you'd like to say.

For example, if you have a female friend who means a lot and has been close, why not ask her to stand as your honor attendant. Nothing says you have to have a best man! Yes, she should dress like the other bridesmaids and carry a bouquet or something similar to the bridesmaids.

What if you have a special color you'd like included? Tell you bride about it and see if it can't be incorporated. (However, please understand not all brides are into NFL,NBA or MLB colors!!!!)

Drop hints as to what you might like to have if your bride decides to surprise you with a groom's cake. Don't like cake? I've had icecream cakes made to take the place of the cake.

Let your bride know your thoughts. She may not take all your suggestions, but I'm sure she'll be glad to hear you are interested in the planning.

Many groom's don't think a wedding coordinator is necessary, but let me recommend that if you want your bride, FMIL and your family to enjoy the day, you'll be the first to suggest it. Having a good coordinator is invaluable when it comes to figuring out complex issues such as blended families, working in children from a previous marriage, working out compromises between the two of you and families; and in helping you to have a stress and worry free day.

Destination Weddings vs. Planned Elopements

I want to differintiate between a Destination Wedding and a Planned Elopement.

A Destination Wedding is one that takes place away from your home and includes a number of guests generally under 50. These generally are 3-5 days in length, with activities planned for guests.

A Planned Elopement is a wedding that is generally the bride and groom and possible a couple of friends or family members.

Both are wonderful ways to keep costs in check, especially for those who would have a guest list of 400 if they stayed at home!

A big difference is that you need to expect the same amount of planning, from a wedding coordinator, to go into planning your destination wedding as you would if having a home wedding. Where with a "Planned Elopement" there's still a time factor, but not nearly as involved.

You can plan to pay a wedding coordinator the same for their services as if you were in the vicinity planning your wedding. The only additions I charge are for travel expenses if the wedding includes traveling outside the metro area.

The same for elopements. Fees are based on what services you want and what you want included.

Involving Children

Can you believe it's August already? It's not to early to start the planning process for any weddings in 2009.

When the bride and groom have children, they look for ways to incorporate them into the ceremony. It's extremely important that children feel like they, too, are becoming part of the new family that's being created.

Several ideas as to how you can include them are:
* Have your officiant work a vow into the ceremony for them and you to take.
* When doing a unity candle (or whatever you use), have the children participate so they know they are included in this new family being formed.
* Present them with a special gift during the Unity celebration, or even when the rings are exchanged.
* If they are old enough, ask them to read a special poem or scripture.
* When you are presented, be presented as the Smith Family, instead of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith.

Planned Elopements(c)

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to assist a beautiful couple, from Florida, realize their dream of a wedding in the Rocky Mountain National Park. (They did a "planned elopement".)

The site the chose was Lily Lake, just south of Estes Park. This little lake is surrounded by the grandure of the Rocky Mountains. The Lake is clear with fish jumping and ducks swimming. (Did you know that ducks, geese and swans mate for life?) This has to be a good omen! I was the officiant.

Many couple who come to visit Colorado fall in love with the State and want to return to get married. Whether you want a full destination wedding with several days of interacting with guests, spas, and other wonderful outdoor activities, to a very romantic site for just the two of you, I can help.

If you are considering a mountain wedding, there are some things you might need to know. The wedding season is generally early June through mid October. The "high" season for the ski areas is generally Thanksgiving through the middle of March. (This is when the costs will be the greatest and less apt to receive discounts.) From April through May is generally known as the "mud season". You also need to keep the altitude in mind if considering older guests. Even those who want to elope, and are coming from sea level, need to allow time to get used to the thinner air.

Whether you want to do an eleborate, 150 guest, destinationa wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gultch, or a romantic elopement for just the two of you, I can assist.

Colorado offers everything from historic hotels in Denver, Mountain tops, to casinos for those who want to have fun without the hassel of Las Vegas.

Consider a "planned elopement". This is where I assit you with everything from officiating the ceremony to arranging for a photographer, helping with hotel arrangements etc. All this takes is a call to me to set up the date and time, idea of where you'd like to have the ceremony, then I send you a selection of vows to choose from or you may write your own. (I am happy to travel to anywhere you care to get married. For those brides planning destination weddings outside of Colorado, I'm happy to travel there as well.)

Attendants gifts can be a real concern to decide what is just right.

First, they don't need to be the same. Take into consideration what each attendant likes then build on that. If you want to gift your bridesmaids with their jewelry to wear, consider having it custom made. A great website for this is www.lesliesarts.com. This artist can take your colors and ideas and create a lasting memory for each bridesmaid, as well as something they can continue to wear years later.

If you have an attendant that enjoys poetry, look for a first edition of his/her favorite poet. Wooden jewelry boxes are something both men and women can use. For groomsmen, if they enjoy beer, consider a six month subscription to "Beer of the Month" club.

Think outside the box. Give them something they will always treasure as well as use.

For parents, consider a beautiful crystal picture frame that they can display your wedding picture. Another thoughtful gift is to have a fruit basket or a tray of chocolate covered strawberries and champagne delivered to their home or room to be enjoyed after the wedding.

Grooms Corner

It's June! The wedding season is officially off and running.

Groom's a couple of tips for you. Ask your groomsmen to wear a white t-shirt under their tux shirt. This will absorb any sweat and will make them much more comfortable during the day and evening. It also looks much better if they are photographed without their tux jackets and vests. (You don't have hairy backs!!!! :0)

Want to make a great lasting impression of your wedding day to your bride? Write a short one or two sentence note to your bride and have your coordinator attach it to her flowers for your bride to read before walking down the aisle into your new life together.

Groom’s have long felt that their place, in wedding planning, has been to dress up and show up. Guess what!!!!
This has changed.

Today’s modern groom realizes that his ideas and desires are also important. Gone are the days when the bride makes all the decisions, especially since more and more couples are paying for their own weddings.

What then should a groom plan on? First off, what is a groom responsible for?

Let’s start with the proposal. How and when generally puts a man into a cold sweat. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. Whether you want something simple, like a picnic in the park, or something complex, such as a trip to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Paris, I can also handle all the details to make it a perfect moment for the two of you. And, don’t forget the photographer and videographer. You want to capture each moment and emotion so you can add these to your wedding album and wedding video.

Now, what kind of ring do you want to give your special lady? It can be a diamond, colored diamond, a pearl, birthstone, actually any gemstone that may peak her fancy. Size? Some people will say you need to spend the equivalent to two month’s pay. Let common sense be your guide. Spend what you can afford. Keep in mind that if you purchase a beautiful, top grade quarter diamond, on your fifth, tenth, fifteenth or twentieth anniversary, you can surprise your bride with an upgrade to a larger stone. It’s the thought that counts, not the size. If your lady is more concerned about the size and how much is spent, take a step back and reassess your situation. Keep in mind the Four C’s – Carets, Color, Clarity and Cut. (For a wonderful resource, before buying a diamond, read How to Buy A Diamond by Fred Cuellar.)

Should your lady pick out the ring? If you want to surprise her, you can casually ask what she likes, maybe during a shopping trip, to get ideas. Before purchasing a ring, ask the jeweler about return policies if she doesn’t care for the mounting. In this case, present the ring, then the two of you go back to the store and she can select a mounting more to her liking. (I’ve actually orchestrated a proposal where the jeweler brought the ring to be presented with the understanding if she liked it, the groom would be purchasing it. If she didn’t like it, then the two of them would go into the store to select one she did like.)

If you want your bride to be to select her own ring, visit the jeweler ahead of time to talk with them about how much you want to spend so they will show rings only within the price range. Select your jeweler as you would a doctor. You want someone you can build a relationship with, as you will, no doubt, be purchasing additional jewelry items throughout your lifetime. You want someone you can trust, who you know will listen to what you want and who you know will deal upfront and honestly with you.

Okay, you’ve gotten down on one knee, popped the question, and she said yes…now what?

Here’s a list of what, traditionally, the groom and his family is responsible for…

Brides engagement/wedding rings.
Marriage License.
Ceremony official's fee (many times the bride’s family will pay this as well.)
(Going-away corsage for the bride if leaving directly on their honeymoon.)

Wedding night suite
Rehearsal dinner

Blood tests
Gloves, ties, and ascots for men in wedding party.

Attendants pay for:
Personal wedding attire.

Why should you and your bride consider hiring a wedding coordinator?
Let me distinguish between a site coordinator (hotel wedding coordinator) and what I do. The hotel or site coordinator is just that. They are there for the benefit of the venue. I, on the other hand, am there to assist you and your bride with your planning by recommending qualified and proven vendors, working with you to figure out what to give your attendants, groomsmen, and even assist finding the right gift for your bride. I work with you both to be sure everything is in the order you want your day to be and then am on site to make sure it happens.

During your planning process, I’m available to assist with any questions, help you find a good tux shop, and even recommend a honeymoon spot.

Another important item I, as your wedding coordinator, do is to supply an extensive emergency kit. Buttons fall off, shirt necks don’t always fit or one of the groomsmen may have forgotten to brush his teeth. I can take care of all these things plus many more.

A good wedding coordinator is available to the groom as much as the bride. Groom’s love to surprise their brides with a lovely card, note or letter on their wedding day and I can be your “postman” to deliver it.

2008 Wedding Trends

What’s hot and what’s not?

Colors are beautiful this year. Blues, in any shade, are very strong, especially when paired with metalliacs such as gold, silver, gray and platinum. Bold jewel tones are no longer just for the Fall and Winter weddings, but are making very bold statements. Most popular are the rich purples (purple in any shade is good), golds, oranges, and reds.

The hottest color for next season is purple from pale lavender to deep eggplant. Black, plum and navy, latte, coral and lavender, mauve, sage and turquoise, emerald, burgundy and chocolate are all the colors for the next four seasons. You will be seeing more use of floral and geometric patterns and a heavy emphasis on shiny metallics.

A European trend is gaining popularity here in the U.S. That is to choose deep, rich colors for their own wedding dresses as well as the bridesmaids. Traditional white will hold it’s top spot, but will pick up the color in smart accent details. Sashes, ribbons and embroidered detailing in fantastic colors will be seen on wedding dresses and complimented by everything from the choice of stationary, linens, added décor and even the wedding cake.

Look for multi-layers of fabric, including tinted multi-layered voile and chiffon. Chic brides will turn to colored crinoline underskirts and accent colors featured on the soles of their bridal shoes. (As an aside, for fun, have each bridesmaid sign the soles of your shoes and the name that shows the brightest at the end of the reception will be the next to get married!)

Vintage is in. Look for influences from the glory days of Hollywood and beyond. Romance is very evident in halter necklines, capelet sleeves, light and airy styles, strapless gowns, plunging necklines, antique lace, stain ribbons for straps, ruffles, tea length dresses in Spring and Summer (great for destination weddings as well as morning or afternoon weddings), diamond or crystal or rhinestone accessories, open-toed stilettos and dangling earrings. “Green” weddings are gaining popularity. Brides are choosing to use their dollars to “give back”, using products such as recycled paper invitations (those made with flower seed imbedded are wonderful as your guests can “plant” their invitations and they add beauty to any garden). Brides are utilizing more local organic foods, antioxidant free meats, pesticide free floral and even dresses made from natural fibers.

Color plays a big part in all parts of your wedding, but especially in the décor. Reception décor is gaining speed in moving to a bold color pallet. Your room will “POP” with color and your guests will love it.

Personalizing more, items such as monograms, family heirlooms etc. are in vogue.
Next year – look for a modern twist to classic ideas.

Couples are turning from the round table look to the square tables, using vintage accents, international and ethnic themes.

Signature drinks and family recipes are in. Work with your caterer to come up with a signature drink that can be served either with or without alcohol. More couples are working in ethnic dishes, sometimes even providing a special recipe to the caterer.

An elegant idea to add to the cocktail is the addition of ports and cheeses along delicious chocolate treats, which never go out of style!

More and more couples are cutting their guest lists to 75-100 of their closest friends and family. With wedding costs coming close to $150 per person, the wow factor gets much larger with fewer guests.

Vail Elopement

Friday, Feb. 22, I had the honor of performing the ceremony for a lovely couple in Vail, CO. They had come from the east coast to enjoy the snow and attmosphere of Vail.

The day was beautiful. The sky was totally blue, the sun was shining on the fresh snow, that had falled the night before.

The bride was beautiful in her white wedding dress and veil, and the groom very handsome in his dark suit. Hand in hand they walked to the place where they wanted to exchange their vows.

We walked out behind the hotel and down a trail to be near a partially iced creek, flowing in the back ground. With the snow surrounding us, a friend. of the bride, standing up for the couple and acting as photographer, they exchanged their vows. Afterwards, we went back into the hotel to sign the license and they proceeded on to dinner.

Hoping that all who are newly engaged, planning a big wedding or an elopement, may all your dreams come true.

Many couples will take advantage of the theme of the day to express their love and get engaged.

Take time to enjoy being engaged. Don't feel like you have to rush to the phone and start asking people to be part of your wedding party. Think this through first! Let the joy and fantastic feeling of being engaged sink in. Hopefully your parents will throw an Engagement Party. If they don't or don't live close enough, through one yourselves. Every quarter I offer a one night course through Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO for brides who need help in getting started. This is a 2.5 hr. class where you can ask questions and get answers. The class is Feb.13,2008 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. This is a great class for the bride and her groom or mother to attend as it will give you a running start on your planning.

Why hire a wedding designer/coordinator?

You’ve started planning your wedding and the first thing you run into is the wedding coordinator at the venue you’ve chosen. Why then do you need to hire a wedding coordinator if one is already in the package?

What is the difference between a hotel wedding coordinator, a church wedding coordinator, a site wedding coordinator and a wedding coordinator?

A site coordinator is just that…they are there for the venue, whether it’s the church or hotel. They are there on behalf of the site to make sure the site is treated with respect and that the rules of the venue are followed. What they don’t do is sew on missing buttons, remove stains, supply black socks if a groomsman forgets his.

A wedding coordinator is someone you’ve worked with during the entire planning process and have come to trust. We know what you want, what your dream is and strive to make it happen.

Is hiring a wedding designer/coordinator worth the money? To be honest, I’m always hearing brides say that they wished they would have done it then maybe things would have run smoother, or they would have enjoyed their day.

A wedding designer/coordinator doesn’t have to be certified. Anyone can decide they want to plan weddings and set up shop. What being certified means is that the coordinator cared enough to get further training and the certificate shows they did. There are many organizations that offer certificates, including the one I’ve founded Trained Wedding Professionals, which offers the course “The Art of Wedding Coordination”. It never hurts to ask if the person you are considering has taken a course.

A wedding designer/coordinator will also work closely with your vendors so you don’t have to worry about them doing their job. It takes a team to have a successful wedding/event and a good coordinator knows how to make this happen.

Is it money well spent? This is something you need to decide for yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for references then call them. Past clients will give you the most honest feedback you can get. Make your decision based on the experience of the coordinator as well as how they make you feel. Do they listen to you or do they try to tell you what they think you need? Do they make you feel at ease? If so, you’ve probably found the right person to entrust your wedding day to.

Day Of Services

Why my “Day Of” package isn’t $500.

Many are the times when brides or mothers comment on the fact that I charge what I do for the services I perform for the “Day Of” package. You’ve heard the statement “you get what you pay for and in many cases this is very true. I’m not saying that you won’t get good service if you pay less because I can only speak for myself. With 18 years of experience behind me, what I can tell you what you’ll receive if you hire me.

Yes, you may have found and contracted all your vendors; made your decisions on what food to serve; what musicians or DJs to use, but what you haven’t done is pull all facets together.

Putting together a timeline isn’t something that is done in an hour. Many weddings, I do, require weeks to pull everything together the way the bride wants the flow to go. Then the hard work starts. Not only do I make sure that the vendors will be at the venue, but I personally make a final tour of the facility to iron out any potential problems ahead of time.
I personally attend the rehearsal and choreograph it. The day of the wedding, I’m the first one on site and the last to leave the reception, stopping first by where the bride is getting ready, to make certain that the make-up artist and hair stylist have arrived and that she and her wedding party, have everything they need before I move onto the ceremony site. I’ve had times when I’ve been at the hotel at 5 am to get things started and haven’t left the reception until 2 am.

My job is to make sure the bride/groom and their families are able to be guests at their own wedding. Mom or Dad doesn’t have to worry about if the cake was delivered, if the chair covers are properly installed or that the cake topper, serving pieces, or the Waterford flutes are returned. All this takes time and effort.

I love what I do. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a beautiful, beaming bride float down the aisle to her waiting, handsome prince charming. Each wedding is important to me, whether you have chosen the Full Package, the Partial Package or the Day Of, you will be treated, as you deserve, as a princess for the day.

Newly Engaged? Getting Started

'Tis the season for engagements. CONGRATULATIONS to those of you who have just made the committment.

Some questions you may be asking....

What to do first?
Locate and book your ceremony and reception sites - your wedding date may be 18 months away, but if possible get your deposit down on your chosen location. Details can be taken care of later.

Next start by booking a good wedding coordinator. A good coordinator will not take over, they will assist you with bring your vision to fruition. Well worth the money, but do ask for and DO CHECK references.

Start looking for vendors - Your coordinator will have a list of qualified and verified vendors they should be able to recommend. If you aren't utilizing a coordinator at this stage, then ask friends and past brides for recommendations. Again, check references. Meet with each vendors (try to keep your list to 3 vendors per category to keep it manageable). If you get a "warm fuzzy feeling" then you know you've found the right one. It's very important that you feel comfortable with each vendor as they are handling one of the most important days of your life!

Be prepared to put 50% deposit down with most vendors. Keep in mind this is probably a non-refundable deposit.

Once you have the above mentioned things in place, you are ready to start with the details.

Don't want to wear a veil?

For the bride, who may be getting remarried, more mature, or just doesn't want to wear a veil, you might consider flowers.

Flowers can be worn in the hair as a hair band, wreath, or a beautiful single flower behind your ear. They not only add a romantic note to your wedding, but they can also add color.

Flowers add so much to a wedding. Consider carrying a single flower, having a wrap made of flowers around your shoulders, carry a "kissing ball" or maybe having your groom present you with a single rose once you reach the altar.

Did you know that in the Victorian times, flowers actually would spell out messages? Gentlemen would give specific flowers to show love, friendship etc. A bride might carry the flowers that "spelled" I love you.

'Tis the season for engagements! Newely engaged ladies tend to rush to the phone, call all their best friends and ask everyone to be in the wedding party. Before you do this consider the following:
1) Can she afford to be an attendant
Can she afford the dress, travel and lodging?
2) Do all the girls get along?
3) Are any of the girls "prima-donnas"? (This can cause a lot of problems for you.)
4) You don't have to have an equal number on each side.
5) Yes, you can have a man on the bride's side and a woman on the groom's.

It's the time of year when many couples get engaged and don't know how or where to begin. The planning of a wedding can be extremely intemidating to anyone, especially if you've never planned this large a function.
